Social Media and Marketing Apprentice

MKM Building Supplies, the UK’s leading independent builder's merchant is looking for an enthusiastic Social Media Marketing Apprentice to join our team. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience and make a real impact. You’ll work closely with our in-house team, branches, and external partners to grow our social media presence, helping us maintain our position as the most engaged building supplies brand online. You'll also support key goals such as:

  • Growing followers
  • Increasing engagement
  • Ensuring customers and influencers are talking about (and using!) our products

Key Responsibilities:

Branch Marketing Support

An important part of your role will be providing direct support to our branch network, helping them build and maintain a strong local presence on social media.

Branch support responsibilities include:

  • Attending regular meetings with branches to provide updates and advice on social media
  • Supporting branches with content ideas, localised campaigns, and posting best practices
  • Creating or sourcing content specific to the branch
  • Acting as the first point of contact for social media-related branch queries
  • Provide day-to-day admin support, including account access issues (e.g. locked accounts, password resets) and support with onboarding new team members to social media platforms
  • Work alongside the Social Media Lead and Videographer to support content creation during branch visits across our network

Managing our social media accounts and content creation

  • Assist with briefing graphics into the design team or create basic video edits using tools like CapCut or Instagram Edits
  • Write engaging, on-brand captions tailored to each branch's tone and audience
  • Schedule and publish content using Hootsuite, Meta Business Suite, and other relevant tools
  • Support daily engagement likes, comments, shares, reposts
  • Respond to DMs, comments, and queries from both followers and branches
  • Monitor brand mentions, tags, and relevant hashtags
  • Help grow our online community by actively engaging with accounts and identifying trends
  • Stay up to date on social media trends, challenges, and platform changes
  • Research competitors' strategies

Campaign Support & Collaborations

  • Support campaign planning and execution alongside the Social Media Lead and Videographer
  • Collaborate with our third-party agency to brief in paid campaigns based on audience type, location, and demographic insights
  • Help coordinate influencer and customer relationships

Data & Insights

  • Track key metrics like engagement rate, reach, video views, and watch time
  • Learn how to interpret social data to inform and improve future content

Collaboration & Development

  • Work closely with the wider team to ensure a social-first approach to campaigns and activity
  • Participate in internal and external training sessions
  • Learn about branding, digital strategy, and wider marketing tools such as email, SEO, and blog content

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across different teams and branches.
  • A creative thinker with a fresh perspective – you enjoy exploring new ideas and approaching challenges from different angles.
  • You’re not shy about stepping in front of the camera to showcase your ideas and bring energy to our content.
  • A keen interest in photography and videography and a desire to learn skills around this (training would be provided).
  • A proactive attitude and a willingness to travel and adapt to the needs of the role.
