MKM opened it's 134th branch in Cheltenham on Monday, 24th February 2025, creating 17 new jobs in the community. The new branch aims to revitalise the builders’ merchant scene in Cheltenham, with exceptional customer service, extensive product offerings, and a strong commitment to community involvement.

As MKM’s first branch constructed to BREEAM standards, the Cheltenham location sets a new benchmark for energy efficiency. It incorporates a range of sustainability-focused features including, PV panels on the roof, an air-source heating system complimented by a MVHR system, enhanced insulation, movement-controlled LED lighting systems throughout, electric vehicle (EV) chargers, electric forklift truck (EFLT) chargers, an electric van charger, water-saving systems and a generous cycle store. The site is supplied with REGO certified grid electricity and is targeting energy carbon neutrality in operation. The Cheltenham branch is MKM’s most energy efficient to date, representing a step forward in new branch design and aligning with its broader sustainability goals.

Led by Branch Directors Jamie Cole and Dave McCombie, both seasoned professionals with nearly 20 years of experience each in the building merchant industry, MKM Cheltenham is poised to deliver a fresh and customer-focused approach. Jamie and Dave are passionate about putting people first—both customers and colleagues—and are eager to make a positive impact in the local community.

Jamie explained, “We believe the national merchants have lost touch with what truly matters - which is being part of the community and valuing both customers and staff. Our goal is to change that by offering a merchant experience that genuinely cares about its customers, colleagues, and the local community. We want every customer to feel the difference when they trade with us at MKM.”

Dave added, “The building community in Cheltenham has always been supportive, especially when it comes to charity events. We want to bring back that feel-good factor to builders’ merchants by providing better service than anyone else. We're not just here to supply materials; we're here to be an active part of the community.”

MKM Cheltenham will offer a comprehensive range of building materials, with specialisations in plumbing and heating, kitchens and bathrooms, and landscaping. The branch includes a state-of-the-art kitchen and bathroom showroom showcasing the latest designs and finishes, along with a modern landscaping display to inspire customers’ outdoor projects. Nationally recognised brands such as OX Tools, Siniat, Bradstone, Bekstone, Cure It, Polypipe, Days Aggregates, Velux, Kingspan, and Symphony Kitchens will feature prominently, ensuring customers have access to high-quality, trusted products.

Dave emphasised the branch’s adaptability to local needs, saying, “We aim to be the one-stop shop for all building needs. If we don’t have it in stock, we’ll source it. What makes MKM different is our flexibility; we can stock exactly what our customers want, rather than being restricted by corporate guidelines. This allows us to respond quickly to the needs of the Cheltenham community.”

Customer service is at the heart of MKM Cheltenham’s offering. Visitors can expect a welcoming and friendly atmosphere, with a knowledgeable team ready to provide expert advice and tailored support for both trade professionals and the public. Together, Jamie and Dave have built a team with over 10 years of experience per member on average, ensuring that every customer benefits from a wealth of industry expertise.

The branch will provide free next-day delivery and same-day delivery where possible, with a reliable fleet including 26-tonne and 18-tonne vehicles, as well as box vans. Customers can also expect trade rewards schemes, consistent pricing, and flexible 60-day credit accounts. With good, free coffee and plenty of friendly banter, Jamie and Dave are determined to create an environment that customers will want to return to again and again.

MKM Cheltenham’s commitment to the community extends far beyond its products and services. The branch has already pledged to support local charities such as Men’s Shed and local food banks, while also sponsoring grassroots sports, including the Saracens U18s football club. Dave highlighted their dedication to giving back: “We are huge believers in supporting the community, whether through time, money, or materials. We want to be actively involved and make a real difference.”

The directors are also passionate about inspiring the next generation of tradespeople. Plans are already underway to work with local schools and colleges to develop apprenticeship programmes, providing young people with valuable opportunities to build careers in the construction industry.

The branch’s modern facilities, including up-to-date displays, ample parking, and car charging stations, will make it a convenient and inspiring destination for trade professionals and DIY enthusiasts alike. Jamie summed up their vision: “This branch is not just a business; it’s part of the community. Our aim is to offer the best customer experience and to be a positive part of our customers’ day. We want everyone to feel the difference when they trade with us at MKM.”
