On Monday, 17th February 2025, we opened our 133rd branch in Bangor, which created over 21 new jobs for the community. Our new branch, located at Parc Bryn Cegin, marks a significant milestone for the estate, which has been vacant for over 20 years.
Led by Branch Director Paul Painter, who brings over 25 years of experience in the building and housing industries – it'll deliver our renowned blend of extensive product offerings, unrivalled expertise, and a dedicated as always for our core values of supporting and enriching the local community too.
Paul’s extensive career spans multiple years across national builders' merchant, time with independent merchants, and over a decade in social housing. This comprehensive background includes experience working with builders, contractors, and homeowners, giving him a unique insight into the needs of both trade professionals and the public.
“The opportunity to open MKM Bangor, right in the heart of one of the most beautiful parts of Wales, is a dream come true,” said Paul. “Not only do we get to revitalise a long-unused site, but we also have the chance to make a real difference locally. From creating jobs to supporting young people in the area, we’re here to be more than just a builder’s merchant – we’re here to be part of Bangor’s story.”
As always this branch will be for local builders, tradespeople, and DIY enthusiasts. Stocking an expansive range of building materials, the branch will feature specialist plumbing and heating expertise, alongside high-quality products for roofing, civils, kitchens, bathrooms, and landscaping.
To inspire customers, our branch boasts a state-of-the-art kitchen and bathroom showroom, showcasing the latest designs and finishes to help customers visualise their dream spaces. Additionally, an extensive landscaping display provides ideas and solutions for outdoor projects, from patios and decking to garden features and materials.
Complementing its expansive offerings, it'll stock a mix of trusted national brands such as Kingspan, Velux, Kronospan, Siniat, Hanson, Samaca slate, Stonemarket, Globalstone, Aco, Mapei, and Sika. The branch is also proud to support local suppliers, including Welsh Slate and Mona Precast, ensuring a dual language offering that reflects and respects the local community.
“With our kitchen and bathroom showroom, landscaping display, and an unbeatable selection of trusted brands – including local household names – we’re helping customers see what’s possible and bringing their projects to life,” Paul added.
With 20,000 square feet of warehouse space, customers will also benefit from covered storage for timber and other essential materials, ensuring a smooth and convenient experience – no matter the weather.
“We’ve worked closely with potential customers to ensure our stock reflects their needs,” Paul explained. “Our team has over 180 years of combined experience, with specialists in civils, roofing, plumbing, heating, and renewables. We’re open seven days a week, and our Welsh-speaking, friendly staff are here to offer knowledgeable advice to both trade professionals and the public.”
Trade customers will enjoy tailored benefits, including same-day delivery (where available) and, as is standard across all our branches, free local delivery. Flexible credit options and dedicated customer loading areas for fast turnarounds will also be offered. To top it off, the branch will host regular trade events, complete with pie days and special offers, creating a welcoming and vibrant atmosphere.
It's already making an impact in the local area, with sponsorships including the Ogwen Tigers U11 girls and Bangor U13s football teams. The branch is also planning to support Maes G Showzone and other initiatives aimed at improving opportunities for young people.
“We want to make a meaningful difference,” Paul added. “This branch is about building something lasting for the community, not just providing materials. We’re proud to be part of Bangor’s growth story.”
We're proud to open the doors to a vibrant and welcoming community. Whether you’re a seasoned contractor or a DIY enthusiast tackling your first project, the branch is ready to provide expert advice, competitive pricing, and unparalleled customer service.
