C24 is one of the highest quality timber types available, used in a wide range of construction projects and typically used in load bearing situations because of its strength and durability. It’s also a graded timber which is usually kiln dried to reduce its moisture content, but can in some instances be wet graded, where moisture is simply reduced to ambient levels.
What’s graded timber?
Graded timber is often referred to as regularised, with a regular and consistent section size achieved by a machined finish. When timber is graded by a machine it must pass certain tests, such as a deflection test where pressure is applied. Once it passes, it will be given a stamp which identifies the grade, producer, identification number and condition. A similar stamp is also used when a visual grading takes place. The stamp ensures it meets the requirements and makes it easy to assess the quality of the timber.
What are the benefits of C24 carcassing timber?
C24 carcassing timber can withstand the most demanding environment and outperforms C16 timber for many applications. It’s more durable, denser and less likely to twist or bow, making it perfect for joinery and construction.
C24 over C16
If your project allows you to use either of these timber types, C24 is more beneficial in a number of ways. You can have wider rafter centres or a smaller deck board section and if you’d prefer to leave the timber unvarnished then C24 is better for that too.
Why choose C24?
It’s strong. Our C24 timber is grown for over 70 years before harvesting. Slow growth results in tighter growth rings giving our C24 carcassing timber superior stability, durability, strength as well as a premium finish.
It’s reliable. We recognise our customers need quality timber, within budget, for quick collection or delivery when you need it. Our suppliers have robust supply chains and production, ensuring consistent quality and availability.
It’s visually appealing. C24 carcassing timber has less imperfections and smaller, fewer knots. This signifies higher quality and greater stability and means it looks great but doesn’t compromise on strength.
It’s sustainable. We’re committed to industry leading suppliers such as Sodra, who source their timber from forests that are well managed and conform to the highest environmental standards. From seed to delivery, sustainable timber is something we’re passionate about.
