The opening of MKM Birmingham North marks another major milestone for the UK’s largest independent builders’ merchant.

Not only is this state-of-the-art facility the company’s 84th new branch opening nationwide, but it’s the first time MKM has opened a branch in the Birmingham area. Co-Branch Directors, Jason Hart and Luke Donnelly, are looking forward to showing the trade and general public what MKM is all about. “MKM is a one-stop-shop for all building products,” said Jason.  “Our extensive range of solutions, backed up by our commitment to provide a first-class service offering, makes us confident that people haven’t experienced a merchant like us before, certainly not in this area.” It’s Jason and Luke’s extensive experience in the building and construction sector, along with their local roots, that makes their ambition of becoming the flagship merchant in Birmingham a realistic goal.

“We’re extremely driven to be the best and believe we have all the ingredients for success,” continued Luke.  “Not only is Birmingham North a fantastic facility in a great location, but we’ve also invested heavily to bring the best people into the business that can provide outstanding service, local knowledge and expertise. “We know the building trade is a people business and all about relationships.  By bringing the right people into the business that care, it will go a long way to building our reputation and providing a first-class experience to our customers, every time we work together.” MKM Birmingham North provides an extensive range of over X products from its 1.45 acre site on the Minworth Trade Park.  This includes heavyside, heating and plumbing, landscaping, roofing, electrical, drainage and civils, insulation and plaster board, workwear and timber, sheet and joinery. The branch also boasts a stunning kitchen, bathroom and flooring showroom.  Offering a range of traditional and contemporary solutions to suit all styles and tastes, MKM’s dedicated design consultant is on-hand to help consumers every step of the way, including 3D visualisation and home surveys. Jason continued: “The official opening of our branch is a great opportunity for us.  MKM is a business with fantastic family values.  The fact that we are independent gives us the flexibility to trade with anyone we like, and this, coupled with the backing and support of MKM and the strength of the national brand, make this an extremely exciting proposition. “Ultimately, it’s about providing the right products, at the right price, when our customers need them, and doing this in a professional, friendly and welcoming way.

We believe that MKM Birmingham North gives us the perfect environment to serve the needs of the local community, whatever size or type of project they are working on.” Jason started life in the building industry in 2007, working as a yard operative at a Birmingham-based builders’ merchant.  He quickly excelled, moving up the ranks and becoming one of the UK’s youngest branch managers at the age of 24!  Since then, he’s successfully managed a number of merchants across the Birmingham area, before being approached last year to become Birmingham North’s new Branch Director. Outside work, Jason’s a big family man, with three kids aged 12, eight and one.  When he does have a spare minute, which is rare, you’ll find the footy mad Brummie either in the stands at Villa Park or playing and coaching at Bourneville FC, where he manages the Under 8s girls team, the boys Under 12s and is the player/coach of the men’s team, pulling the strings from central midfield. Jason’s co-Director Luke has over 22 year’s leadership experience in the merchant industry around the Midlands, working predominately within the plumbing and heating sector.  Back in the day, Luke could be found most Saturday afternoon’s packing down in the backrow for his beloved Trinity Guild Rugby Club in Coventry.  Today, Luke is still an active member of the club as Secretary.  Luke’s married and has two daughters, aged 13 and eight.
