A trio of MKM branches have played an important role in renovation work for a Hull children’s charity that is set to be featured on the BBC One Series ‘DIY SOS: The Big Build’. Via its branches in Scarborough, Malton and Beverley, MKM donated 30 cubic metres of timber to the St Michael’s Youth Project in Hull, a truly life-changing adventure playground facility which provides inner city children from across East Yorkshire the chance to benefit, appreciate and learn from the natural world. In spite of the current timber shortages impacting the construction sector worldwide, Paul Pennick, Timber Products Manager at MKM, worked round the clock to source the materials required. He says: “When the call came through asking MKM to support the build for St Michael’s, I knew it was something we had to support. With just a two-day turnaround, the team and I did all we could to source the materials needed, working with our branches in the region to ensure we could supply on time.” The finished project will give children access to a purpose built adventure camping site which features an outdoor kitchen, a nature classroom, camping facilities, toilets and shower block, a bike trail and landscaped firepit area. Kate Tinsley, CEO at MKM, added: “Supporting the local communities in which we operate is a key value of MKM’s, so we were absolutely delighted to be able to supply to the build at the St Michael’s Youth Project. It’s always nice to give something back to the communities that support MKM, and this one was particularly special to us given it is happening so close to our central support office and first-ever branch at MKM. We can’t wait to see the finished build!”
