Why MKM?
Having grown up in Hull, I know how important MKM is to the city.
The company is always looking at ways to give back to the local community through sponsorships or charity events so I knew it was a business I would like to be a part of.
What were you doing before starting your apprenticeship?
Before starting my Apprenticeship, I studied Accounting at University, achieving a First Class Honours Degree.
What does a typical working day look like for you?
A typical workday can vary depending on what stage we are in the payroll cycle, however it usually revolves around processing information such as new starters, leavers, absences.
As we get closer to pay day and all the information has been gathered and processed, we begin to run various reports to check for any outlying variances and ensure that there are no errors.
If you had one piece of advice for someone looking to start an apprenticeship with MKM, what would it be?
Regardless of age or experience, MKM is a great place to start an apprenticeship as they enrol you onto programmes completely relevant to your background - ensuring you can progress within your chosen career.
Outside of your apprenticeship, what are you learning about how businesses work and the importance of teamwork?
Since starting my apprenticeship, it's become clear to see how important the role of teamwork is in order to run a business successfully.
From the person working the till in a supermarket right up to the directors of an international business, everyone plays a role to keep business running efficiently and effectively. That’s no different here at MKM – everyone plays their part in making the business a success.
What would you say is the biggest skill you’ve picked up so far during your apprenticeship?
Using the knowledge learned from my past experiences and applying that in a useful manner to help in the everyday tasks of running a payroll system.
Can you describe how the MKM team has made you feel in one sentence?
Since I began my apprenticeship at MKM, everyone I have spoken to has always made me feel welcome to be here and a part of the team.
