MKM Building Supplies, the UK’s proper independent builders’ merchant, will open its 138th branch nationwide in Sidcup on Monday 9 February 2026, creating 17 new jobs for local people and giving local builders and homeowners a dependable, well-stocked merchant run by people who know the area.
Located at Five Arches Business Estate, the new branch will be led by Branch Directors Daniel Fincham and Simon Gregory both well known locally with decades of experience in builders’ merchants and long-standing connections across Sidcup and the surrounding area.
Daniel Fincham has worked locally for more than 20 years and knows the area well.
Dan said: “Sidcup has a proper community feel. It’s one of those places where everyone knows everyone. I loved the idea of running my own branch where decisions are made on the ground and building an A-team from scratch. That’s exactly what MKM allows us to do.”
Dan started his career in the yard and has progressed through counter sales, telephone sales, sales rep, assistant manager and branch manager roles before becoming a Branch Director. Over the past two decades, he has built up extensive experience working across builders’ merchants in the local area, giving him a clear understanding of what Sidcup customers expect from their supplier.
Simon Gregory has lived in Sidcup for 40 years and brings more than 30 years’ experience in builders’ merchants, including over two decades as a branch manager.
Simon added: “MKM is a great fit for Sidcup. It’s a proper one-stop shop and the team we’ve brought together here really knows their stuff. Builders, trades and DIY customers will notice the difference straight away.”
MKM Sidcup will offer a full range of building materials, with timber a standout strength, alongside landscaping, plumbing and heating and kitchen and bathroom design. An in-branch cutting service, combined with 18,500 sq ft of fully covered storage, means timber materials leave the yard dry, accurate and ready to use. It’s all designed to help customers get on with the job, without unnecessary delays or returns.
Customers will find trusted brands including DeWalt, Kingspan, Rockwool and Velux, alongside a wide range of facing bricks and landscaping products. Stock will be shaped by regular conversations with customers, allowing the team to react quickly to what people are actually using on site.
The branch will open with a highly experienced local team bringing over 200 years’ combined time in the trade, with strength across timber, building materials and kitchens. Trade customers can expect friendly service, competitive pricing, strong availability and delivery options to suit their jobs, alongside trade account benefits including discounted pricing and online account management.
MKM Sidcup will offer free local delivery using crane-offload lorries and curtain-sided vehicles. From the moment customers walk through the door, they can expect a warm welcome, practical advice and the kind of service that makes getting materials one less thing to worry about - plus a free coffee and hot sausage roll for those calling in.
The branch also plans to support local charities and community initiatives, with early plans already in place to work with North Cray & District Royal British Legion, supporting veterans and former service personnel experiencing homelessness. Further local partnerships are currently under discussion. Both Branch Directors are clear that MKM Sidcup wants to be part of everyday life in the area, not just another supplier.
Simon summed it up: “We want people to enjoy coming here. If you need materials, advice, or just want to talk a job through, we’ll make the time.”
Dan added: “We’re proud to be opening MKM’s 138th branch here in Sidcup. We’re ready to get going and can’t wait to welcome local trades and homeowners through the doors.”
