A Dream Home Extension: A Journey from Cramped to Comfort

The girls and boys each shared a room, but as they matured, the need for individual spaces became apparent.

The homeowner, David Wilkinson, of DW Brickwork, showed his expertise as a bricklayer and plasterer by planning out his family's needs: a two-tiered rear extension. This thoughtful redesign meant more than just added space – it was about creating a home that catered to every family member's needs.

Imagine a spacious, well-lit kitchen and dining area, a handy kitchen island, a utility room, and doors that fold open to let you step right into a vast garden. But that's not all. The second storey would house two extra bedrooms for the little ones, and a bonus bathroom to offer the much-needed privacy for the teenagers.

Engaging an architect to design their vision and securing planning permission took around 12 weeks. But once approved, the eagerly anticipated work could begin. David has a longstanding working relationship with our Branch Director at MKM Scunthorpe, Kevin Danks, who was thrilled to help source all the materials, including bricks, blocks, plaster, plasterboard, board adhesive, screws, and timber.

The complete transformation, from foundations to plastering the internal walls, took just around 4 months. The homeowner's ability to undertake the project himself, along with his industry connections, resulted in significant cost savings.
